Editorial Policy

Updated 22 March 2026

TL;DR — Our editorial team operates independently from any commercial relationships. No bank can pay to influence a score, a ranking, or a word of our content.

Our Editorial Principles

1. Independence First

CardTrail’s editorial decisions — what cards to cover, how to score them, what to recommend — are made independently of any commercial relationship. No bank, card network, or financial institution has editorial input or approval rights over our content.

2. Scores Before Commercials

The CardTrail Score is calculated using our published 4-dimension model (net value, accessibility, feature depth, bank trust) before any affiliate or commercial arrangement is considered. A card’s score is the same whether or not we have an affiliate relationship with the issuing bank.

3. Transparent Methodology

Our scoring formula, weights, and data sources are published on our methodology page. Any consumer can verify our math. When we update the model, we document what changed and why.

4. Data Accuracy

All card data is sourced from:

  • Official bank websites and product pages
  • Bank-published most important terms (MIT) documents
  • RBI circulars and regulatory disclosures
  • Direct verification with bank representatives (when public sources are ambiguous)

We update our database regularly and correct errors within 24 hours of discovery. If you find incorrect data, report it here.

How We Handle Affiliate Relationships

CardTrail may earn commissions when users apply for credit cards through links on our Site. Here’s how we ensure this doesn’t compromise our editorial integrity:

What we do:

  • Clearly mark affiliate links where they exist
  • Calculate scores independently of affiliate status
  • Cover cards regardless of whether we have an affiliate relationship
  • Include cards with no affiliate program when they deserve high scores

What we never do:

  • Accept payment to improve a card’s score or ranking
  • Let affiliate commission rates influence editorial decisions
  • Suppress negative information about a card because of an affiliate relationship
  • Create content specifically to promote a bank’s products

Content Creation Process

  1. Topic selection — Based on consumer search demand, Indian credit card market trends, and gaps in existing coverage
  2. Research — Data gathered from official sources, cross-referenced for accuracy
  3. Writing — Content written to inform, not to sell
  4. Review — Fact-checked against our card database and official sources
  5. Publication — Published with clear sourcing and date stamps
  6. Maintenance — Updated when card terms change or new information emerges

Corrections Policy

We take errors seriously. When we discover or are informed of an inaccuracy:

  • Data errors (wrong fee, outdated benefit): Corrected within 24 hours
  • Content errors (factual mistakes in articles): Corrected and noted with an update date
  • Methodology changes: Documented on our methodology page with rationale
